Katherine Lugar is new president/CEO of AH&LA

Dear Members:
It gives me great pleasure to announce the appointment of Katherine Lugar, executive vice president of the Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA), as president/CEO of AH&LA, effective April 17, 2013.

Katherine joins us as the association embarks on a new mandate to become the lodging industry’s primary voice for advocacy in the nation’s capital. She is eminently qualified to transform AH&LA by significantly strengthening its government affairs and media outreach.
For the past six years, Katherine has spearheaded RILA’s public affairs efforts. During her tenure there, she established the association as the retail industry’s premier advocate and led a number of important legislative victories, including the reform of debit card swipe fees. Prior to joining RILA, she served as vice president, federal government relations, for Travelers Insurance. Before joining Travelers, Katherine held several posts at the National Retail Federation, ultimately serving as vice president, legislative and political affairs.
During the search process, Katherine made clear her desire to work more closely AH&LA’s members and to focus on advocacy in Washington. That will require some changes and many fresh ideas. She is eager to get to work with the association’s members and its many friends in Washington, D.C. Joe McInerney will stay on through a period of transition.
Please join me in welcoming Katherine aboard as we begin a new and exciting era for AH&LA.
Sincerely,

Ron Vlasic
AH&LA Chair
Regional Vice President of Hotels, Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants
